A person was in “very critical condition” after an apartment fire early Monday morning on Birmingham Avenue in Norfolk.
Norfolk Fire-Rescue personnel were called to the location — in the Wards Corner section of the city — just before 6:40 a.m. and found a fire on the second floor of the apartment building, said Battalion Chief Carrie Jones in an email.
The fire was considered under control at 6:50 a.m.
An unidentified person was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in “very critical condition,” Jones said.
The Red Cross was helping two other people with housing after the fire.
Jones said an investigation was underway.
No other information was immediately available.
