A man died after an altercation at the gas pumps at a 7-Eleven in Hampton escalated into an exchange of gunfire, according to a press release from Hampton Police.
At about 5:43 p.m., Hampton Public Safety Communications received multiple calls about a shooting at the 7-Eleven located in the first block of East Mercury Boulevard. Officers found a man suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds upon arrival. After he received immediate medical aid, he was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The victim had been struck multiple times and the suspect fled the scene by vehicle, according to preliminary investigations.
Hampton Police did not have any additional information about the victim or suspect and are still investigating the situation.
