10-year-old hit by gunfire after stepfather tries to shoot boy’s father during fight in Monroe County, police say

A child was hit by gunfire in Monroe County, and his stepfather is accused of pulling the trigger during a fight with the boy’s father.

The 10-year-old’s stepfather, Darius James, got into a fight with the boy’s father Thursday at a home near Effort in Chestnuthill Township on Thursday, according to state police

During the fight, James pulled out a gun and tried to shoot the boy’s father in the head. The boy was hit in the arm as a result, and the father suffered a head wound, police said.

The boy and his father were both taken to the hospital.

James faces several charges, including aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of children. He remains in Monroe County Prison awaiting a preliminary hearing set for Oct. 2.
