NORFOLK — A 19-year-old man was shot to death around the Villa Heights neighborhood on Monday afternoon.

Police said dispatchers received a call about a man who had been shot around noon. Officers arrived near the intersection of Church Street and 28th Street and found the man, Montario D. Johnson of Norfolk, with a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Johnson was taken to nearby hospital but later died of his injuries, according to a statement from the Norfolk Police Department.

Police are investigating the killing as a homicide. No additional details were immediately available.
