$2 million Mega Millions ticket sold at Chesapeake Wawa

If you recently bought a Mega Millions ticket in Chesapeake, you could be a millionaire.

A winning ticket for Friday night’s drawing was purchased at the Wawa at 471 Kempsville Road in Chesapeake, according to the Virginia Lottery.

The winning numbers for the Sept. 26 drawing were 4-21-27-33-49, and the Mega Ball number was 21. The unclaimed ticket matched the first five numbers and missed only the Mega Ball number, which means it was just one number away from hitting the jackpot, according to a release.

The base prize amount for matching the first five numbers in Mega Millions is $1 million. However, each Mega Millions play contains a Multiplier randomly assigned at purchase. The multiplier on this ticket was 2X, which doubles the prize to $2 million, according to the lottery.

Whoever has the winning ticket has 180 days from the drawing date to claim the prize. The winner should immediately sign the back of the ticket to establish ownership, the lottery advises.

The ticket sold in Chesapeake is the only one in the U.S. that matched the first five numbers in Friday’s drawing. No ticket matched all six numbers to win the jackpot, so the jackpot for Tuesday’s drawing grows to an estimated $497 million, according to the lottery.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights at 11 p.m. Drawings are streamed live at www.valottery.com.

The odds of winning the $2,000,000 prize in Mega Millions are 1 in 12,629,232, according to Virginia Lottery.
