2 students, 3 adults taken to hospital after school bus crashes into vehicle, police report

Five people, including two students, were taken to an area hospital Tuesday afternoon after a school bus crashed into a vehicle in Bethlehem Township, police said.

The two student passengers on the bus, a bus aide, the bus driver and the driver of the other vehicle were all taken to St. Luke’s Hospital-Anderson Campus for evaluation, but police said none of the injuries was life threatening.

The bus belongs to Colonial Intermediate Unit 20, which transports special needs students throughout the region.

Officers were dispatched about 4:35 p.m. to the crash at the intersection of Freemansburg Avenue and Washington Street, township police posted on Facebook.

The preliminary investigation determined that the passenger vehicle was stopped at the intersection, and was waiting to make a left turn onto Washington Street, police said. The school bus was traveling west on Freemansburg Avenue toward the intersection and hit the rear of the stopped vehicle. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and required towing.

Emergency crews from Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Company, Nancy Run Fire Company and Paramedics from Bethlehem Township EMS assisted police at the crash scene.
