33 spiders among reasons for restaurant shutdowns in Central Florida last week

Four Central Florida restaurants as well as a food stand and a food truck shut down the week of Sept. 28 – Oct. 4, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Brevard

Shells of Melbourne at 1490 W. New Haven Ave. shut down on Oct. 1. Inspectors initially inspected the restaurant on Sept. 30, finding 36 violations, eight of which were a high priority. However, they only required a follow-up inspection for the restaurant on that day. On Oct. 1, the restaurant officially closed because of one high-priority violation for flying insects. A second inspection occurred on Oct. 2. There were 12 violations, two of which were high priorities that received time extensions. The restaurant met inspection standards and was allowed to reopen.

China Moon Lin LLC at 3085 SE. Jupiter Blvd., Suite  #2, shut down on Sept. 30. Inspectors found 11 violations, two of which were high priorities. Those violations included 33 spiders in the back of the kitchen and roach activity. Inspectors revisited the restaurant on Oct. 1. There were two violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Lake

Perkins Restaurant and Bakery 1242 at 905 Bichara Blvd. shut down on Oct. 3. Inspectors found 17 violations, five of which were a high priority. Those violations included an employee cracking raw egg shells before handling ready-to-eat food, roach activity and an improperly stored toxic substance. A second inspection occurred on Oct. 4. Inspectors found three violations, but none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Orange

Sabrososauce Corp., a food truck at 912 W. Church Street, shut down on Sept. 29. Inspectors found seven violations, two of which were high priorities. Those violations included not having potable running water and an expired business license. A second inspection on the same day found four violations, only one of which was a high priority for an expired business license. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Osceola

Sickie’s Garage Burgers and Brews 1 at 7640 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway shut down on Sept. 29. Inspectors found five violations, one of which was a high priority for rodent activity. A second inspection occurred on Sept. 30. There was one violation, but it wasn’t a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Volusia

Stand #3 at the Daytona Flea & Farmers Market at 2987 Bellevue Road shut down on Oct. 3. There were five violations, three of which were high priorities for rodent activity, improperly stored shell eggs and food held at the wrong temperatures. A second inspection the same day had no violations. The stand met inspection standards.

Total Inspections

Among all inspections across Central Florida, there were 3,765 violations total, including basic, intermediate and high violations.

Orange County had the most with 1,448, followed by Volusia with 707, Brevard with 567, Lake with 399, Seminole with 401 and Osceola with 243.
