A third-generation Easton firefighter and Easton Area High School graduate who died Thursday is being remembered for a life of service to the community.
Tyler Weidner, 33, an active firefighter with the department since 2021, died Thursday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, according to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio. His cause and manner of death are pending toxicology and microscopic studies, the coroner said.
The city fire department said Weidner, of Williams Township, was a third-generation firefighter who joined after graduating from the Allentown Fire Academy class of 2021.
Weidner, who graduated from Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, had “drive and never-quit spirit,” Easton fire Chief Henry Hennings said in a statement. He was a vital member of the first platoon, where he responded to several emergencies over the years, the chief said. He noted that Weidner had recently saved someone using CPR.
Weidner was a 2010 Easton Area High School graduate, and was a member of the 2009 District 11 championship football team, according to his obituary. He was involved in wrestling and tennis, and was a lead with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Huddle at Easton High School. He graduated from the Citadel in 2014.
Weidner was driven by a “deep commitment to service,” and followed in his father and grandfather’s footsteps when joining Easton Fire Department, his obituary states. His last act of service was donating two of his kidneys after his death, Hennings said.
His obituary states he lived his life with passion, and enjoyed being surrounded by loved ones.
“Above all, Tyler’s greatest pride and deepest love were for his family,” the obituary reads in part. “He was a devoted son and grandson, a protective and loving brother, a loyal fiancé, and a proud and adoring father.”
He is survived by his fiancée, his son, parents, siblings and maternal grandparents.
Weidner and Charles Bellis III were honored Friday night at Easton’s football game. Bellis, a Palmer Township supervisor and local youth sports coach, died Monday.
A viewing for Weidner will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Morello Funeral Home at 3720 Nicholas St. in Palmer Township, according to the fire department. Calling hours will be held there from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a memorial service, his obituary states.
His family requests memorial contributions be made to his family for the benefit of his son, Sawyer Lee Weidner. They can be sent to Morello Funeral Home.
