Portsmouth police announced Friday that five children, all ages 15 or 16, have been charged in the killing of another child in late December.

None of the children have been named.

All five have been charged with aggravated murder and six counts of robbery, among other gun charges, according to a news release.

The charges stem from a Dec. 22 shooting in which a child was shot and later died at a hospital.

The shooting was reported around 3:20 p.m. in the 1500 block of Atlanta Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a boy who had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital but later died.

Investigators took the five juveniles into custody over next month, between Dec. 24 and Jan. 15.
