7 Central Florida restaurants shut down last week

Seven Central Florida restaurants shut down the week of Aug. 31-Sept. 6, according to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Orange

China Garden at 2550 W. Colonial Dr., Suite 100 in Orlando, shut down on Sept. 3. Officials found 14 violations, only one of which was a high priority due to roach activity. During the follow-up inspections on Sept. 4 and 5, the restaurant failed to comply with the emergency order. On the final inspection, which also occurred on Sept. 5, there were 10 violations. None was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

East Garden at 5136 W. Colonial Dr. in Orlando shut down on Sept. 4. Inspectors found 12 violations, only one of which was a high priority due to roach activity. Inspectors revisited the restaurant on Sept. 5. There were four violations, and none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Saigon Noodle and Grill at 2405 E. Washington St. in Orlando shut down on Sept. 3. Inspectors found 25 violations, four of which were high priorities. Those violations included an employee touching ready-to-eat food with their bare hands, raw animal food not separated from ready-to-eat food, operating without a business license and roach activity. A second inspection occurred on Sept. 4. Officials found 13 violations, and none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Brevard

Gators Dockside at 683 Dave Nisbet Dr. in Cape Canaveral shut down on Sept. 3. Inspectors found 19 violations, four of which were high priorities. Those violations included flying insects, a stop-sale on food due to temperature abuse and raw food not separated from ready-to-eat food. A second inspection occurred on Sept. 4. There were no violations. The restaurant complied with the emergency order.

Red Crab Melbourne at 425 E. Eau Gallie Blvd. in Melbourne shut down on Sept. 3. Inspectors found 10 violations, two of which were high priorities for flying insects and rodent activity. Inspectors conducted a second visit on Sept. 4. They found three violations, and none was a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Jersey Mike’s Subs at 100 N. Miramar Ave. in Indialantic shut down on Sept. 2. Inspectors found 10 violations, one of which was a high priority for food held at the wrong temperatures. Inspectors revisited the restaurant on Sept. 3. They found one violation, and it wasn’t a high priority. The restaurant met inspection standards.

Volusia

The Pelican Bistro at 3510 S. Nova Road, Suite 119, in Port Orange shut down on Sept. 5. Inspectors found 12 violations, three of which were high priorities. Those violations included dish washing machine sanitizer that wasn’t at the proper strength, rodent nesting materials and rodent activity. Inspectors revisited the restaurant on Sept. 6. They found four violations and issued a time extension on the sanitizer. A followup inspection is required, but the restaurant posed no immediate threat to the public.

Complaints and warnings

Orange County had the top spot for most warnings and other complaints in Central Florida, with 36.

Volusia had 20, Brevard had 13, Lake had 15, Osceola had 10 and Seminole had nine.
