757Teamz field hockey Top 15: Nansemond River gives coach 200th career victory

It’s been a monumental week for Nansemond River, the reigning Virginia High School League Class 5 champions.

Keeper Chloe Aker notched 10 saves as the Warriors knocked off Poquoson 3-0 last Tuesday. Caitlin Outlaw scored twice in the matchup. The following evening, Brayden Johnston recorded a hat trick in an 8-0 victory over Deep Creek, marking the 200th win in coach Ali Dize’s 16-year career. Outlaw and Caydence Parker chipped in with two goals apiece. Nansemond River hosts Grafton Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Poquoson bookended the setback to Nansemond River with wins over Bruton and Grafton, powered by a combined six goals and two assists from Elizabeth Trant.

Rose Holland fired in the winning goal of a penalty corner-drive from Bella Glenn to help Cox topple Great Bridge 1-0 in double overtime. Goalie Sammi Terry earned the shutout with the help of defenders Bella Terry, Cosette Lee and Mikaela Quinn. Glenn also had two goals and two assists in a 7-0 Falcons win over Ocean Lakes.

Previously unbeaten Great Bridge will look to rebound against host Maury Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Brooke Sunderland tallied two goals and two assists as Catholic topped Cape Henry Collegiate 4-1. The Crusaders next host Hickory Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., while Cape Henry welcomes visiting Norfolk Academy Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Here are some other standout performances from last week:

Sophie Stroud recorded four goals and an assist to lead First Colonial to a 6-0 win over Bayside and a 7-1 win over Princess Anne. Isadora Kitzmiller added five total assists.

Natalie Moss had four goals to fuel York’s 6-0 victory over Lafayette. She also had a goal and an assist in the Falcons 5-0 tilt over Jamestown.

Zoe Goral finished with a hat trick as Western Branch blanked King’s Fork 7-0.
