757Teamz football predictions: All districts feature a showdown between ranked teams in rare week

Maybe for the first time — ever — there’s a big game involving ranked teams in every district this week that could help decide the regular-season champion.

In the Southeastern District, No. 2 Oscar Smith (2-1) travels to Suffolk to take on No. 5 King’s Fork (3-0) in a showdown that should put the winner in the district driver’s seat.

Since King’s Fork opened in 2003, Oscar Smith has won 18 of 20 meetings.

The Bulldogs, however, have beaten the Tigers twice — 2017 and 2023 — in the last five meetings. King’s Fork won a share of the district with Oscar Smith in 2017, and then won it outright in 2023.

Oscar Smith (2-1) is led by quarterback Lonnie Andrews (619 yards, eight TDs, five INTs) and wide receivers Travis Johnson (19 receptions, 322 yards, three TDs) and Charles McGlown (seven receptions, 180 yards, three TDs).

King’s Fork (3-0) is led by quarterback D’Andre Artis-Boone (575 yards, eight TDs, one INT) and wide receivers Anthony Henderson (13 receptions, 207 yards, two TDs) and Zy’Dar’Eyus Wynn (13 receptions, 137 yards, one TD).

In the Beach District, No. 4 Green Run (4-0) puts its 47 consecutive district wins on the line at No. 11 Kempsville (2-1). The Stallions have won four straight district titles and 13 of the last 14 games against the Chiefs. The Stallions forfeited a game to Kempsville in the spring of 2021 for using an ineligible player, so Kempsville’s last on-field win in the series was in 2012.

In the Eastern District, top-ranked Maury (2-1) plays host to No. 12 Churchland (4-0). The Commodores, who have won at least a share of the last six district titles, have won the last nine meetings against the Truckers. The last time Churchland won was 2015.

In the Peninsula District, No. 3 Phoebus (2-0) meets No. 8 Warwick (2-2). The Phantoms have won 51 games in a row. A win over the Raiders will help them share the Virginia High School League record that was set by previous Phoebus teams and Riverheads of Staunton. Since 2004, Phoebus is 23-0 against Warwick.

No. 7 Lafayette (4-0) plays No. 13 Poquoson (4-0) in a battle of unbeatens expected to decide the Bay Rivers District championship a second consecutive season. Lafayette won last year’s duel 14-6 in the final regular season game after rallying late 17-14 to win the season before.
