757Teamz girls volleyball Top 15: StoneBridge climbs to No. 5 with strong start, unbeaten record

StoneBridge, a member of the Metro Conference the Virginia Independent Schools’ smallest class (Division III), plays an aggressive schedule under coach Eric Plumlee with close to 40 matches per season.

The Cavaliers already have passed the 20-match mark for the season, and at 21-0, they are the winningest team in Virginia. On Saturday, StoneBridge tacked on four more victories, beating Albemarle, Perquimans County, of North Carolina, and Chelsea to reach the Endless Summer Tournament Division 1 final, where they topped Grassfield 2-0 (25-21, 27-25).

The Cavaliers make this week’s biggest leap in the 757Teamz Top 15 to No. 5.

Kellam, the only local girls team to compete in the Endless Summer championship bracket, posted a 2-2 mark, with losses to Georgetown Day, of Washington, D.C., and James Wood of Winchester — winner of three consecutive Class 4 state championships.

The Knights last week also beat Tallwood 3-0 as Sophie Barnes had 18 kills and 13 digs for the Knights.

Grafton stands as the one of the other area unbeaten teams and has climbed to No. 2. The third undefeated team, Phoebus, enters the rankings this week at #13.

In the Beach District, First Colonial’s 3-0 win over Salem last week gave coach Edie Magula her 500th career victory. The Patriots — led by senior outside hitter Teagan Emdadi — have won three straight matches after a rough start that included matches against Kellam, Cox, and a brutal non-conference schedule.
