Allentown middle school principal placed on leave after weekend incident, school district says

The new principal for Harrison-Morton Middle School has been placed on administrative leave following an incident at a park in Allentown over the weekend.

The district said in a letter to families that Stephanie Williams was placed on paid leave following an incident Saturday.

Williams was appointed principal in July with a salary of $140,000. She had been a teacher and school leader in Philadelphia, and recently was principal of Belmont Charter Middle School, the district said.

District spokesperson Melissa Reese said Arcelius Brickhouse will serve as acting principal until further notice. Brickhouse is the district’s executive director of instructional leadership, according to the district’s website.

She said that the district is not able to provide additional details because it is a confidential personnel matter.

Videos posted on social media showed Williams seemingly out of breath and acting erratically at Bucky Boyle Park. At one point in the video she is seen rolling on the ground.  An Allentown police spokesperson did not have information on the incident Monday morning.
