A barber from Connecticut is one of five bearded men in the running for the Wahl® Benevolent Beards Contest, according to a statement.
“Miguel Delvalle from Hartford, CT, once struggled with homelessness but he worked his way up to opening a barbershop in 2020,” according to Wahl. “His path took a prophetic turn when he realized his shop was next to a homeless shelter. As he was getting the shop ready to open, men from the shelter would stop by for a free haircut. Word of his generosity soon spread and increased demand for free haircuts led him to launch the first ‘No Hair Left Behind’ event, and eventually to establish his own 501(c)(3) charity Scissors Society, Inc.”
Delvalle will earn $5,000 for himself and $20,000 for his charity if he wins, according to Wahl: “He’ll also be crowned the new ‘Wahl® Man of the Year,’ a moniker that boasts a bearded brotherhood spanning 18 years.”
One haircut and ‘You look good, you feel good.’ This Hartford event plans 100 and here’s why.
Readers can cast their vote for Delvalle online, according to Wahl. Voting ends Sept. 12 at 5 p.m. Central Time, according to the website.
