Aug. 30, Alabama, 3:30 p.m., ABC
The buzz: Aside from Florida, the last SEC team to play in Tallahassee was LSU in 1990. There are plenty of questions about both teams, including how well the offenses will look with new quarterbacks (Tommy Castellanos for FSU and potentially Ty Simpson at Alabama). Another juicy storyline: New FSU offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn picked up three wins over Alabama as Auburn’s head coach (2013-20).
Sept. 6, East Texas A&M, noon, ACC Network
The buzz: After an emotional opener, FSU takes on in Week 2 an FCS program that went 3-9 in 2024. The Seminoles will pay East Texas A&M a $450,000 guarantee, and they should buy an opportunity to develop younger players in the second half.
Sept. 20, Kent State, time and TV TBA
The buzz: FSU went 2-10 in 2024, scoring 15.4 points per game (131st among the 134 FBS schools). But Kent State was the nation’s worst team, going 0-12 and was last in the FBS in scoring offense (13.9). This is the last tune-up before the ACC slate ramps up.
Sept. 26, at Virginia, 7 p.m., ESPN
The buzz: A new-look FSU team plays its first three games at home, which is a big advantage. But now the Seminoles face a Friday night spotlight game on the road. These are two teams looking to secure bowl-eligibility after missing out in 2024, and this early game could be a measuring stick for both FSU and Virginia.
Oct. 4, Miami, time and TV TBA
The buzz: FSU didn’t win a rivalry game in 2024, losing by an average of 19.3 points to Miami, Florida and Clemson. This will be a big test of new Miami QB Carson Beck vs. FSU’s 3-3-5 defense. Mike Norvell’s buyout keeps his hot seat from being toasty, but a win over Miami would go a long way with Seminoles fans.
Oct. 11, Pittsburgh, time and TV TBA
The buzz: A veteran Pitt offensive line vs. a new-look, experienced FSU defensive front are among the reasons this is an intriguing, under-the-radar matchup. Which version of Pitt does FSU face: The Panthers who opened with seven wins in 2024 or the one that finished with six losses?
Oct. 18, at Stanford, 10:30 p.m., ESPN
The buzz: Will the Seminoles play with jet lag or will they pull away late from the Cardinal, who are viewed by some analysts as the ACC’s worst team? FSU hasn’t played a regular-season game in California since 1997.
Nov. 1, Wake Forest, time and TV TBA
The buzz: Two programs with dramatically new rosters for the fall. FSU had a revolving door with the transfer portal, but so too did Wake after coach Dave Clawson’s abrupt resignation. The Seminoles’ starting center, Luke Petitbon, was an All-ACC standout for Wake from 2020-23.
Nov. 8, at Clemson, time and TV TBA
The buzz: Clemson is viewed as the marquee team in the ACC in 2025 and a likely preseason pick to return to the College Football Playoff. FSU picked up an overtime victory in 2023 and took Clemson down to the wire in a loss in 2021. Can the Seminoles pull off a major upset at Death Valley?
Nov. 15, Virginia Tech, time and TV TBA
The buzz: FSU and VT were two of the most disappointing teams in the ACC in 2024. The Hokies lost seven games after being a preseason dark horse pick to get into the CFP, while FSU went 2-10 after a 13-1 season in 2023. Norvell and VT coach Brent Pry had to hit the reset button, with both hiring new offensive and defensive coordinators as part of a rebuild.
Nov. 21, at NC State, 8 p.m., ESPN
The buzz: FSU plays on the road, on a Friday night and on a short week to prepare for the Wolfpack. That could be a pre-Thanksgiving recipe for trouble for the Seminoles, who have lost three consecutive games at NC State and haven’t won in Raleigh since 2016.
Nov. 29, at Florida, time and TV TBA
The buzz: DJ Lagway vs. FSU’s veteran defense. Tommy Castellanos vs. UF’s defense, which improved dramatically late in 2024 and returns seven starters. Add in that there are still big-picture questions about Norvell and UF’s Billy Napier, and this rivalry matchup has no shortage of storylines.
