A national grocery store chain to replace shuttered Rite Aids in Allentown, Easton. Here’s when

A new grocery store will help with food inaccessibility when opens this week in Easton, with another location to follow in Allentown.

Ideal Food Basket will open Friday at 901 Northampton St. in Easton’s West Ward, manager Alvis Diaz said, replacing the Rite Aid that closed in 2023.

“It feels great,” he said, to give something the community had been requesting for years and provide fresh produce and meat within walking distance.

The store will operate 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Diaz said he also plans to open an Ideal store at 1401 Tilghman St. in Allentown — another former Rite Aid property — but didn’t have an estimate for when it would open.

Both will join an existing Lehigh Valley store at 410 Montclair Ave. in Bethlehem.

Founded in 2007, Ideal Food Basket is a cooperative of independent grocers with dozens of locations in Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Florida.
