A popular pizza restaurant known for hot oil pies is adding CT locations. See where it’s going next

Pizza lovers in Hartford County will have another option this summer as Colony Grill is moving north with its 11th location later this year and more expected through 2027.

Colony Grill, a 91-year staple in southern Connecticut, is moving into The Shops at Somerset Square in Glastonbury this summer. Colony Grill has been open in Stamford since 1935 and is known for its Original Hot Oil Bar Pie, a thin-crust pizza with signature hot oil topping.

The newest Colony Grill, located at 130 Glastonbury Blvd., will have a capacity of more than 175 people and includes a full bar with 12 tap lines and multiple TVs in addition to the dining room.

“The new Glastonbury restaurant is a renovation of the former Coldwater Creek space at The Shops at Somerset Square and will carry the same warmth and signature features — from the brick walls to the rich, warm-toned wood and expansive bar found in all of our locations,” Colony Grill spokesperson Nicolette Massaro said. “One of our largest restaurants, featuring a beautiful outdoor patio, this location can serve as a convenient stop while browsing the center or as a destination, perfect for both special celebrations and casual weeknight family dinners.”

This will be the business’ sixth Connecticut location. Colony Grill was founded in Stamford but also has locations in Fairfield, Milford, Norwalk and Shelton, the newest location that opened earlier this month. Over the years, Colony Grill has also expanded out of state to New York, Virginia, Florida and Maryland.

“We’re excited to bring our near century-old tradition to families in Glastonbury late this summer, with more growth in Hartford County through 2027,” Massaro said.

“Guests can expect warm, welcoming hospitality and a simple and cost-conscious menu perfect for families as well as a deep commitment to community,” Massaro added. “For nearly a century, Colony has paired its signature thin-crust pizza with a strong sense of civic leadership — supporting veterans and first responders, championing youth sports and students from local schools, and creating a space where people come together and simply feel at home.”

In addition to Colony’s signature thin-crust pizza and hot oil topping, the business also likes to recognize leaders in the communities in its restaurants. “Our Wall of Heroes: A photo gallery is displayed in every restaurant honoring local first responders and members of the U.S. Armed Forces,” Massaro said.

“We invite Glastonbury-area residents to share photos of themselves or loved ones in uniform at colonygrill.com/wall-of-heroes,” she added.

“Colony Grill is an exciting addition to The Shops at Somerset Square, and we’re thrilled to welcome such a beloved Connecticut brand to our community,” Michele Aponte, general manager of The Shops at Somerset Square, said in a statement. “Their unique dining experience and strong commitment to creating gathering places make them a perfect fit for Glastonbury and for our center.”

Other restaurants currently open at The Shops at Somerset Square are Bareburger, Chipotle, Max Fish, Playa Bowls, Social Lounge and Starbucks, with the Tiger Belly Noodle & Sushi Bar coming soon.
