David Jankowski scored on a power play 1:36 into overtime Saturday night, giving the Norfolk Admirals a 3-2 victory over Adirondack before 4,702 at Scope.
The Admirals, 2-0 on a five-game homestand, will try to finish a three-game ECHL sweep of the Thunder in their 3:05 p.m. game Sunday.
Kevin Conley netted his first two goals of the season for Norfolk (4-2-2-0), including one 7:42 into the game. Adirondack (3-2-1-1) pulled even at 1 with about five minutes left in the second period when Jimmy Dowd Jr. scored.
Conley’s second goal, on a power play, put the Admirals ahead 2-1 with just 17 seconds left in the second period. The 28-year-old Wisconsin native has 131 games of American Hockey League experience, including 36 with the Admirals-affiliated Manitoba Moose.
But Dowd struck again 5:12 into the period, eventually forcing overtime. Adirondack’s Grant Loven was called for a double-minor high-sticking infraction with 2:04 left in regulation, a penalty that carried over to the extra period and led to Jankowski’s winning goal.
Jankowski — recently acquired from the Wheeling Nailers — scored his first Admirals goal. He got assists from Chesapeake native Brandon Osmundson and Carson Musser to beat Jeremy Brodeur and end the game.
Brodeur, 29, who played seven games for Norfolk in 2018-19, is the son of Hockey Hall of Fame goalie Martin Brodeur, who’s an executive with the Thunder’s NHL affiliate, the New Jersey Devils.
The Admirals’ Isaac Poulter made 23 saves for his second victory in two nights.
