Admirals derail Worcester in home opener at Scope

The Norfolk Admirals got their season’s home schedule off to a rousing start Friday night at Scope, defeating Worcester 4-1 before 7,645.

The Admirals (2-1) and Railers (0-3) will meet again at 7:05 Saturday night to close the two-game ECHL series.

Worcester went ahead 10 minutes into the game as Anthony Repaci beat goalie Isaac Poulter. But Poulter went on to make 31 saves without letting anything else by, earning No. 2 star honors for the night. And his teammates more than picked up the slack.

Grant Hebert, the No. 3 star, pulled the Admirals even 14:18 into the opening period by scoring off assists from Jaydon Dureau and No. 1 star Ben Zloty.

The Admirals went ahead for good 16:31 into the middle period on a goal by Marko Reifenberger. Zloty scored from a Justin Young assist at 3:37 of the third, and Connor Fedorek completed the scoring at 8:34 from an assist by Chesapeake native Brandon Osmundson.

Losing goalie Tristan Lennox had 19 saves for the Railers, an affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders, in a game with just five penalties (all minor).
