Admirals lose sixth consecutive game as Everblades move to verge of series sweep

The Norfolk Admirals are holding too many “Turn Back the Clock” nights lately — back to the era when they missed the ECHL playoffs for seven consecutive seasons before 2024.

They suffered their sixth consecutive regulation defeat Saturday night as the Florida Everblades beat them 5-2 before 5,160 at Scope.

The Fort Myers-based St. Louis Blues affiliate, which leads the ECHL South Division, will go for a three-game sweep in Sunday’s 3:05 p.m. game.

The Admirals (5-12-2-0), who have dropped 10 of their last 11, went ahead 2:13 into the first period on David Drake’s goal. But German Yavas was given a major and game misconduct for spearing at 6:13, and Florida’s Anthony Romano capitalized with the tying goal at 11:00, soon before the power play expired.

In the second period, eventual No. 1 star Quinton Burns put the Everblades (14-5-1-1) ahead 2-1 at 6:40, but Norfolk’s Jaydon Dureau made it 2-2 at 17:24.

Just 52 seconds later, though, Kyle Betts beat goalie Alex Worthington for what turned out to be the winning score.

In the third period, Everblades goalie Cam Johnson made 14 saves to preserve the victory as teammates Jesse Lansdell and Tarun Fizer netted insurance goals.
