After 50 years, owner of Allentown deli and meat store to retire, puts business up for sale

Karl Ehmer Quality Meats, a longtime specialty grocer in Allentown, is up for sale after 50 years in business.

The deli and meat store at 1645 Union Blvd. will hold its last day of business on Nov. 29, it announced online, the same day owner Leo Osanitsch Jr. will retire.

“The decision is bittersweet though it is time to enjoy a well deserved and long overdue retirement,” the store said.

Karl Ehmer will still offer its products at local events this fall like the Celtic Classic festival and Oktoberfest. It is not accepting holiday orders.

Those interested in buying the business can call 610-432-9111 or email shop@karlehmerallentown.com.

Osanitsch Sr. opened the store in 1975, according to its website, alongside his wife Lina and sons Fred and Osanitsch Jr.

It has since earned a reputation for German specialties such as wurst, pretzel mix, sauerkraut, christollen and mustard.

The Karl Ehmer brand, which also has locations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, first opened in 1932.
