The Lehigh Valley could get some light rain Wednesday during what has been a relatively dry period for the region.
Rain is possible starting early Wednesday morning and throughout the day, but not much rainfall is expected, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey. Forecasters are expecting between .01 and .1 inches of rain by the end of the day Wednesday.
Thunderstorms also are possible. Rain should taper off at night, which forecasters said should be calm.
Heavier rainfall is expected more to the south of the region, in Bucks County and Philadelphia. About a half an inch of rain is possible there. After Wednesday, the Lehigh Valley likely will be dry through at least Monday, according to forecasters.
A little over 2 inches of rain have fallen so far this month, with the bulk of the rainfall happening at the beginning of the month. It’s been nearly a week since the last measurable rainfall in the Lehigh Valley.

Last month, the region had a recorded 1.6 inches of rain, which was roughly 3 inches below normal, according to weather service data. The U.S. Drought Monitor, which tracks and displays drought conditions throughout the country, showed parts of northeastern Northampton County as “abnormally dry.”
The rest of the Lehigh Valley has no drought conditions.
High temperatures are also expected to drop into the 70s Wednesday and again over the weekend. Here is the extended forecast from the National Weather Service:
Wednesday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 72. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 84.
Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 76.
Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 77.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 79.
