American Legion inviting veterans to speak on VA health care at nationwide town hall in CT

The American Legion, the nation’s largest veterans service organization, is bringing a team of staff members to speak directly to veterans about their concerns with VA health care in Connecticut, officials said.

The System Worth Saving program creates on-site visits around the United States to speak directly with veterans, according to officials. During these visits, a team of American Legion staff members and volunteers work side by side with Veteran Affairs medical staff, to listen and come up with answers related to concerns about VA health care.

The visit includes a town hall where all local military veterans are invited to attend and share their experiences with the VA. During the town hall, American Legion representatives, VA staff members, and others will be in attendance to address issues and questions raised by veterans related to their health care experiences at their local VA.

Each year, the Legion’s Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation Commission conducts a series of site visits to VA medical facilities and regional offices across the country. While on site, American Legion representatives meet with veterans, their families and VA administrators and employees to discuss issues and solutions at each site. These observations are compiled into a System Worth Saving report that is distributed to VA officials, members of Congress and the public, according to the American Legion.

The town hall will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 22, and set to be held at American Legion Post 127 at 630 Grassy Hill Road in Orange.

The event is free. No prior registration or RSVP is necessary.
