Incumbent Anne Ferrell Tata, a Republican, retained the House District 99 seat, according to unofficial results.
Tata, 64, faced Democrat Cat Porterfield, 55. The two previously faced off in 2021, when Tata was elected, and she’s held the seat since 2022. On Tuesday night, the Associated Press called the race with Tata receiving 54.3% of the vote with 90% of votes counted. Porterfield had 45.7% of the vote. The district includes north Virginia Beach including the North End, Great Neck and Little Neck areas.
Tata will serve another two years in the House of Delegates. While Tata was able to retain her seat, she is concerned about going into a General Assembly session where Democrats will be the majority.
“I have always said best governance is when you have a balance,” she said. “I am very concerned that we’re not going to have any checks and balances.”
But Tata is looking forward to maintaining a focus on foster care and human trafficking issues, which have drawn bipartisan support in the past.
“I am hopeful for me, for my legislation, that I will be able to continue things like that.”
