Be careful where you trick-or-treat this Halloween: 3 CT roadways make national list of scariest in U.S.

Ever feel uneasy walking down a dimly-lit road or driving past a winding trail at midnight? What if it was infamous for ghostly or supernatural sightings, too?

The folks over at Gunther Volkswagen Delray Beach surveyed 3,000 drivers last year to pinpoint which national roadway is America’s scariest. Three from Connecticut wound up making the list.

While none cracked the top five, Southbury’s Jeremy Swamp Road came in up towards the top at 22nd. According to the survey, the road is notorious for its eerie reputation with tales of ghosts and unexplained phenomena. Locals have also reported cars breaking down in the area, only to find the drivers missing when a tow truck arrives.

Saw Mill City Road in Shelton also made the list at 85th, thanks to reports of figures running between the trees at night along with overhead screams or drivers spotting glowing orbs, according to Gunther Volkswagen Delray Beach. Paranormal investigators have documented strange occurrences as well in the area.

Dows Road in Bethany rounds out Connecticut’s representation, coming in at 115th, with claims the road is haunted by farmers and Native Americans who used to live in the area, according to the survey. People have reported the feeling of being watched while on the road, with others reporting sightings of a big-foot like monster.

“Travelers have reported sudden chills and unsettling sounds of hooves echoing in the night. Locals claim that a ghostly figure on horseback sometimes appears along the road, riding through the misty woods as though in search of something – or someone. The whispers of history and mystery make this drive a chilling experience for those who dare.”
