Bear struck and killed by vehicle in Granby, officials said

A bear was killed after being struck by a car in Granby on Friday, according to officials with the state’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Environmental conservation police were dispatched to collect a bear that was struck and killed by a car Friday afternoon around 2 p.m. at the intersection of Route 20 and Higley Road, according to a DEEP spokesperson.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop, but is not being pursued. Hitting a bear without stopping is not illegal in Connecticut, according to DEEP.

The agency said there is no more information available at this time.
