A Hereford Township man was the driver killed in a two-vehicle crash last week on Route 100 in eastern Berks County, state police said Monday.
William Forbes, 70, was pronounced dead by Berks County Deputy Coroner Hannah Cutshaw at the scene of the Sept. 23 crash in Washington Township.
Troopers from the Reading station gave the following account:
Forbes was northbound on Route 100 near the intersection with Niantic Road when his car crossed the double-yellow lines into the oncoming lane, colliding with a southbound car driven by David A. Dewey, 37, of Gilbertsville, Montgomery County.
Forbes’ car ended up on top of the southbound guide rail. Dewey’s car came to rest in the southbound lane, facing west.
Dewey and his 68-year-old female passenger were taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for treatment of minor injuries.
Eastern Berks Fire Department and several area ambulance companies assisted at the scene.
