Bill Belichick has paced the sidelines in 12 Super Bowls during his legendary career that now spans six decades.
In November, he’ll be pacing them at Rentschler Field.
Belichick’s North Carolina squad is set to face the Huskies in East Hartford on Nov. 7– as long as he’s still at the helm with the Tar Heels– something that was seemingly in doubt during his 4-8 debut season last year.
It might be surreal for NFL fans to see the eight-time Super Bowl winner and Hall-of-Fame coach roaming the sidelines at the Rent, whether they appreciated his terse, dour style, hoodies with the sleeves cut off and all.
Belichick will no doubt be the highest-profile coach the UConn football program has ever faced, and it certainly wouldn’t have dreamed of this possibility back when a series against the Tar Heels was agreed to in 2020.
The matchup with North Carolina highlights a seven-game home schedule for the Huskies, which begins with the season-opener against Lafayette on Sept. 5.
UConn will face Big Ten opponent Maryland on Sept. 12, followed by Syracuse, who the Huskies lost to in overtime this past season, on Oct. 3.
UMass will renew its football rivalry with UConn on Oct. 24, and then James Madison, which went 12-2 and reached the College Football Playoff this past season, will be at the Rent for the first time ever on Nov. 14. The Huskies last faced the Dukes in 2023, and were blitzed, 44-6, by a James Madison team led by then-head coach Curt Cignetti. (You may have Googled him).
The home schedule concludes on Nov. 21, when the Huskies will celebrate “Senior Day” before a game against Old Dominion.
The full 2026 schedule will be released at a later date.
