A 17-year-old boy was killed Sunday after a 19-year-old in a pickup truck hit him and drove off during a confrontation in Boca Raton, police say.
Just before 2:30 a.m., the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was stopped in the road in the 1300 block of Southwest 14th Avenue with two passengers inside, an 18-year-old from Boca Raton and a 16-year-old from Sunrise, Boca Raton Police said in a media release. The victim and the driver were both from Boca Raton and knew each other.
A “confrontation” took place, during which the victim went up to the truck on foot, the release said. At some point, the pickup truck began driving off while the victim was still nearby, hitting him. The truck then continued without stopping and left the area.
The boy was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.
Police later pulled the pickup truck over and detained the driver for questioning, the release said. No arrests have been made. The investigation remained active Tuesday.
Anyone with information should contact Officer Casas at 561-544-8579.
