A Central Florida juvenile who was allegedly in possession of a gun and on his way to school has been arrested.
Officers with the Ocala Police responded to a report of a 9-year-old with a firearm riding on a school bus Monday morning, according to a department press release.
Police boarded the bus and recovered a loaded .38 caliber revolver from near the child’s seat, the release stated.
Investigators determined the child took the gun from a relative’s secured bedroom without permission the previous day.
The juvenile told detectives he’d hidden the gun in his clothing, and had showed the gun to other students, but he didn’t plan to hurt anyone, police said.
He was taken into custody and no one was hurt.
Officials charged the juvenile with possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor, armed burglary and resisting arrest without violence.
He was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
