Child hit by car in Bridgeport in ‘critical but stable’ condition

A child is in critical but stable condition after being hit by a car in Bridgeport on Sunday.

Officers responded to the report of a crash involving a pedestrian in the area of Madison Avenue and Salem Street around 4:30 p.m. and found a child had been hit, according to Shawnna White, public information officer for the city of Bridgeport.

The child was alert and conscious at the scene, White said. The victim was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital and listed in critical but stable condition, according to White.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, White said.

The crash remains under investigation.
