NEWPORT NEWS — A child was shot and seriously injured Sunday night in Quiet Village, a neighborhood of single-family homes near the intersection of J. Clyde Morris and Jefferson Avenue.

Police were called to the scene, in the 700 block of Lance Drive, around 8:30 p.m. The street was filled with several police cars and other emergency vehicles, and responders were seen loading someone on a stretcher into an ambulance.

No information about the injured child was released by police.
