The employment status of Clarendon Hills village manager Zach Creer appears to be in question.
He has not responded to phone calls or emails over the past couple of weeks, and the word from Village Hall is simply that Creer is “out of the office.” Multiple calls to his cell phone went unanswered; however, he did confirm via text that it was the correct number.
Also, weekly staff reports are posted Fridays on the village’s website, but Creer has not issued one since Aug. 1. Instead, those have been written by Mera Johnson, assistant village manager/human resources director.
The absence of Creer from his office coincides with a special Village Board meeting Aug. 25 that included an executive session to “discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of a specific employee or employees,” according to the agenda. No action was taken after the executive session.
Village President Eric Tech has not responded to texts, voicemails or emails.
Creer was still listed as village manager on the Clarendon Hills website, as of Tuesday.
The Village Board voted unanimously May 15, 2023, to name Creer as the replacement for Kevin Baar, who retired June 30, 2023. The position was a promotion for Creer, who previously had been assistant village manager. He first came to Clarendon Hills in early 2014 as assistant to the village manager, after previously working as assistant to the city manager in Rolling Meadows. He left Clarendon Hills in 2017 to become assistant village manager in La Grange, but returned in early 2019 to Clarendon Hills after receiving a call from Barr about taking over as village manager.
Creer earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics in 2010 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a master of Public Administration in 2012 from Northern Illinois University.
