CNU climbs in polls as QB again is honored

Christopher Newport (7-0) climbed a spot to 14th in the d3football.com poll and Randolph-Macon rose two places to 21st.CNU is 13th and R-MC 18th in the coaches’ poll.

Meanwhile, Captains junior quarterback Connor Barry was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.

He ran for three touchdowns and threw for 340 yards and three TDs on 17-of-18 accuracy in a 52-7 victory at William Paterson.

UVA to play at night Nov. 8

Kickoff times and video coverage for some Nov. 8 were announced Monday. Among them:

No. 15 Virginia’s home game against Wake Forest will be at 7 p.m. on ESPN, ESPN2 or the ACC Network. The TV decision will be made after this weekend’s results.

Sun Belt East-leading James Madison’s game at Marshall will be at noon on ESPN2 or ESPNU, based on this weekend’s results.

UVA’s Johnson among Lieberman candidates

Virginia point guard Kymora Johnson was one of 20 players named as watch-list candidates for the Nancy Lieberman Award. They were announced by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in partnership with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

Sun Belt reveals some TV plans

The Sun Belt announced that five regular-season games involving its conference teams will be on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Troy at UAB will be shown at 3 p.m. Dec. 14 on ESPN2. Feb. 7 will feature a Sun Belt/Mid-American Conference clash to be announced at 6 p.m. on ESPN2.

The other three windows (“wild cards”) will be intraconference games with matchups to be determined: 2 p.m. Jan. 10 on ESPNU, 8:30 p.m. Feb. 14 on ESPNU and 9 p.m. Feb. 27 on ESPN2.

Captains’ Karney gains C2C award

Christopher Newport sophomore Declan Karney was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

The center back had an assist during a 2-0 victory by the 19th-ranked Captains (10-1-4) at North Carolina Wesleyan and helped hold the Bishops to three shots for the match.

Tribe’s Abbey takes CAA rookie honor

William & Mary’s Mia Abbey was named the Coastal Athletic Association’s Offensive Rookie of the Week.

The midfielder from Elmer, New Jersey, scored the first goal in the Tribe’s 4-0 victory Sunday over Hampton, which ensured W&M of home-field advantage in Thursday’s quarterfinal against Elon. In the 17th minute, she tucked home a rebound of Sheridan Brummett’s free kick for her first college goal.

ODU’s Bajwa earns share of medal

Old Dominion’s Puneet Bajwa carded a 3-over-par 147 to earn co-medalist honors at the Lehigh Invitational on Sunday at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. She shared that honor with Navy’s Emma Tang.

ODU’s Barbara Car placed sixth at 149.

The Monarchs placed third in the 15-team field with a 35-over 611. Lehigh won at 609, while Penn was the runner-up at 610.

CNU’s Dozier takes another C2C honor

CNU senior Alyssa Dozier was named the C2C Defensive Player of the Week for her 10th career conference award of some kind and her third of the year.

In a 3-0 victory at Marymount, she had nine blocks for the Captains (17-7).
