There are 12 unbeaten teams after two weeks in the Colonial-Schuylkill League. That total will shrink by at least three in Week 3, thanks to three games pitting teams bidding for 3-0 starts: North Schuylkill at Notre Dame-Green Pond, Palisades at Catasauqua and Nativity BVM at Williams Valley.
There are no matchups between any of the nine 0-2 clubs.
North Schuylkill, Notre Dame-GP and fellow 2-0 Northwestern Lehigh are battling for the top seed in District 11 Class 3A. The Tigers won the previous three district titles and been in the last five finals.
Catasauqua and Palisades are part of a loaded 2A bracket with returning champion Williams Valley, Schuylkill Haven, Northern Lehigh, Pen Argyl and Minersville. The Bulldogs and Green Knights meet Friday in Slatington.
Here’s what I think will happen this weekend, starting Thursday when Bangor visits Northwestern and concludes Saturday when Wilson hosts Salisbury:
Colonial-Schuylkill League football Week 3 predictions
Bangor (0-2) at Northwestern Lehigh (2-0): A tough ask for the Slaters on the road against the state’s top-ranked Class 3A team, but they will scrap. Northwestern 42-7
North Schuylkill (2-0) at Notre Dame-GP (2-0): Both teams have dominated the first two weeks. Both teams can beat you in different ways. Perhaps Lafayette’s Fisher Field turf plays more to the Crusaders’ team speed, but the game will be won where most close ones are: in the trenches. North Schuylkill 24-21
Marian Catholic (2-0) at Panther Valley (0-2): The Colts are looking for their first 3-0 start since 2015. The Panthers are hoping to avoid an 0-3 start for the second year in a row. Rory Dixon and Co. have been tough to stop. Marian Catholic 28-7
Southern Lehigh (2-0) at Lehighton (1-1): If the Indians can handle the Spartans’ size and physicality up front on both sides of the ball, their athletes will make plays to make this a four-quarter game. The Spartans have to be emotionally ready after a physical battle last week against Blue Mountain, and not look ahead to North Schuylkill and Pottsville in the near future. Southern Lehigh 27-14
Jim Thorpe (1-1) at Blue Mountain (0-2): The Eagles will need to find offensive balance against the Olympians to put some points on the board, something they struggled to do last week in a shutout loss at Southern Lehigh. The young Olympians are going to be tough outs all season. Blue Mountain 17-14
Pottsville (1-1) at Tamaqua (0-2): The Crimson Tide found just enough offense last week to get their first win of 2025. That will be a challenge all year for the young Blue Raiders. Pottsville 28-6
Saucon Valley (1-1) at Palmerton (0-2): The Panthers and Blue Bombers struggled last week to finish off drives and get key stops when they needed to. Palmerton will need to contain athletic quarterback Braden Rohn. Saucon Valley 21-14
Palisades (2-0) at Catasauqua (2-0): This has become a good rivalry of late with some wild finishes. Both teams have shown offensive balance with many weapons and stingy defensive performances in the first two weeks. This one could go down to the wire again. Palisades 20-13
Pen Argyl (2-0) at Northern Lehigh (1-1): The Green Knights couldn’t wait for their playoff meeting last year to get revenge on the Bulldogs from a regular-season setback. The Bulldogs have been sitting on the 2024 playoff loss for 10 months. Northern Lehigh 28-14
Salisbury (1-1) at Wilson (0-2): Both teams are looking to bounce back from lopsided Week 2 losses. Both coaches are looking for progress and confidence-building moments. The Falcons may find more of both. Salisbury 34-21
Last week: 9-2
Season: 18-3
