Commentary: Charlie Kirk’s impact was felt across Central Florida

The assassination of Charlie Kirk, the Founder of Turning Point USA, is a tragedy for America. The attack against him was not only on one man but on the very principles of free speech, civic engagement, and faith in our nation’s future. Violence must never be tolerated, and those responsible must be held fully accountable.

For Central Florida conservatives, Charlie Kirk was not a distant figure. His influence was direct. Turning Point USA and its political arm, Turning Point Action, have left a deep impact on our region. From Orlando to Daytona Beach, his organization gave young conservatives the courage and tools to stand up for what they believe in.

Turning Point Action helped elect young conservative reformers like me to positions in local Republican Executive Committees. This gave our generation a seat at the table and a voice in shaping policy. Without the infrastructure Charlie Kirk built, many of us would not have stepped forward so boldly.

The legacy of Turning Point USA is visible on campuses across Central Florida. Chapters exist at UCF, community colleges, and even high schools. In classrooms often dominated by progressive narratives, these chapters created platforms for students to speak up and know they were not alone.

Thousands of young Floridians were introduced to conservative principles such as limited government, free markets, faith, and freedom through Kirk’s campus series and his strong presence on social media. He brought these timeless ideas into the digital age, reaching millions of young people and giving them confidence to live their values.

The results are already clear. Parents and grandparents across our community have watched young people, once hesitant to share their beliefs, step forward as volunteers, activists, and even candidates. Older conservatives who feared that the next generation might abandon their values can now see that a new wave of leadership is rising.

If the perpetrator of this act intended to silence Charlie Kirk, they have failed. His voice now echoes through thousands of young men and women who were emboldened by his example. There will be thousands of little Charlies across Florida advocating for free speech, conservative values, faith, and freedom.

We will carry his torch into classrooms, campuses, churches and communities. We will campaign, debate and lead with conviction. Charlie Kirk’s life was cut short, but his legacy is thriving in Central Florida. We will mourn his loss, but we will press on.
