UChicago Medicine hospital in LaGrange named among area’s best
U.S. News & World Report’s 2025-26 Best Hospitals ranking includes UChicago Medicine AdventHealth LaGrange, which was recognized as “a Best Regional Hospital and recognized as high-performing in eight commonly performed procedures and conditions,” according to a news release.
The areas are kidney failure, knee replacement, hip fracture, heart attack, congestive heart failure, hip replacement, pneumonia and abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.
UChicago Medicine AdventHealth LaGrange was ranked 20th (tied) in the Chicago area and 21st (tied) for best regional hospitals in Illinois. The report evaluated more than 4,5000 hospitals nationwide on such things as professional recognition, patient outcomes and factors related to care.
“The Best Regional Hospital distinction reflects the dedication of our physicians, nurses and team members who deliver high-quality, whole-person care to our patients every day,” hospital president and CEO Dave Tkachuck shared in a news release.
Another nearby hospital also was recognized: UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Hinsdale received high-performing ratings for six common procedures.
Former immigration lawyer addresses LWV luncheon
The League of Women Voters of the La Grange Area hosts a fall kick-off luncheon with a program on immigration from 11:30 to 2:15 p.m. Sept. 6 at Plymouth Place, 315 N. LaGrange Road, La Grange.
Recently retired immigration lawyer Craig Mousin will talk about changes in immigration law since 2005, deportation and due process, asylum law, refugee protection and detention. Attendees may ask questions after his talk.
Check in starting at 11:30 a.m., with a cafeteria-style lunch serviced at noon. Mousin will speak from 1 to 2:15 p.m. Register by noon Sept. 4 by emailing amartonffy@aol.com. The luncheon costs $35. Members may invite paying guests.
Golf outing lights up the night for Triton alums
Experience mini golf in a new way, thanks to the Triton College Alumni Association’s annual Glow Golf Outing, set for 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 12 at Indian boundary Golf Course in Chicago.
Happy hour starts at 6 p.m. and includes check-in and the Bottle bonanza Putting Contest. The fee of $85 per person includes a nine-hole glow-in-the-dark golf experience, golf cart, food, chair massage and raffle. Those who don’t want to golf can pay $40, which includes food and a chair massage; raffle tickets may be bought separately.
The event is the alumni association’s biggest fundraiser, with proceeds going to the Alumni Legacy Scholarship Fund, which gives out four $500 scholarships each year.

History professor shares talk on history of migrant youth
University of Illinois Chicago assistant professor of history Ivón Padilla-Rodríguez will present “Childhood Across Borders? The History of Migrant Youth in the United States” at 4 p.m. Sept. 10 as this year’s César Chavéz Intercultural Lecture at Elmhurst University.
The presentation, which takes place in the Founders Lounge of the Frick Center, 190 Prospect Ave. in Elmhurst, is free but reservations are being taken at elmhurst.edu/Cultural.
Padilla-Rodríguez, specializes in the legal and social history of child migration to the United States. She herself is the daughter of formerly undocumented immigrants from Mexico. She has written policy briefs about the migration of women and children for nonprofit organizations and government in Mexico and the United States.
Fall Festival comes to St. Cletus Parish
St. Cletus Parish offers its fall festival Sept. 4 to 7 at 600 W. 55th St. in La Grange.
Festival hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 4 and 5, noon to 10 p.m. Sept. 6 and noon to 9 p.m. Sept. 7. Carnival rides will be offered every day, and acts such as the Booze brothers, Sonora Dinamita, Infinity, Shake Baby Shake and others will perform.
The Jesse White Tumblers perform at 2 p.m. Sept. 7, preceded by Lyon’s Latin Dancers at 12:30 p.m. A St. Cletus Kids Got Talent show is noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 6.
An outdoor Mass for forest responders is planned for 10:30 a.m. Sept. 7and now directs the Police Chaplains’ Unit. He earned the 2023 Richard J. Daley Police Medal of Honor for a life-saving endeavor after a rollover accident on the Kennedy Expressway.

Shopping benefits benefit Hinsdale Humane Society
The Hinsdale Humane Society will benefit from a Sip & Shop planned for noon to 5 p.m. Sept. 6 at J.McLaughlin, 53 S. Washington St. in Hinsdale.
Ten percent of all sales at that time will go to the humane society. In addition, a collection drive for animal supplies and food will be hosted at the store through Sept. 6.
