What’s happening to America? It’s time to take stock of all that’s under attack.
Free and fair elections. The U.S. Constitution — especially the Bill of Rights. Due process. Respect for the law. Three branches of government. The economy, small businesses and labor unions. Experienced federal employees. Our reputation in the world.
Under attack: Climate change. The middle class. America as a nation of immigrants. Women, the poor, gay, disabled people, minorities and demonstrators. Fact-based, free public education. Professionals in the Department of Justice and FBI.
These attacks are steps toward dictatorship. They weaken the U.S. as a strong world leader and economic competitor.
Those who fought in World War II are often called “The Greatest Generation.”
Do we want to be remembered as “The Worst Generation”?
It’s up to us to decide if lies and greed will shape our future, or whether we show the world that we are tough enough to keep our democracy.

President Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis have been on the losing end of lawsuits lately, and each man’s typical reaction is to denigrate the ruling and the judge. “Judicial activist” is their kindest insult, applied by DeSantis to the judge who ruled against him in the Alligator Alcatraz case.
That got me to wondering whether either man has ever responded to an adverse judicial ruling by saying: “I thought we had a chance of winning, but I understand the basis of the judge’s decision. She may have been appointed by Barack Obama, but her ruling is one made by an intelligent, conscientious judge.”
Or has either of them, not to mention Attorney General Pam Bondi, Vice President J.D. Vance or Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier ever been heard to say, “No, we can’t do that! It would be unconstitutional!”

The Bolton search

The FBI executed a search warrant of former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s home and office on Aug. 22. Bolton was National Security Advisor in Trump’s first term. He wrote a scathing book about this tenure, “The Room Where It Happened.”
Bolton anticipated blowback from Trump. So, is this retaliation by Kash Patel’s FBI, or a legitimate investigation of alleged mishandling of classified documents by Bolton?
The fastest way to answer this question is to publish the affidavit for a search warrant submitted to the federal judge to justify the search.
The affidavit, a sworn statement of the facts and evidence which support forced entry of a citizen’s home, is required for any search warrant and advises the judge that there is a probability that additional evidence will be found.
These affidavits typically are not made public, but the Bolton search presents an issue of great public concern. The FBI should publish it.

Maxwell’s credibility
After listening to Ghislaine Maxwell’s interview with Trump’s attorney, I have only one thing to say: Make her take a polygraph!
