Fans of the now-defunct Dexter’s in Hannibal Square have a new hang to consider: Corner Chophouse.
The steakhouse from the carnivorous minds of The Indigo Road Hospitality Group, the same that hatched brands including Oak Steakhouse (Atlanta, Charleston, Nashville, more) and O-Ku (Alys Beach, Jacksonville, Washington, D.C. and more), has officially opened its doors.
Its makers hope to see it become “the” local destination for steaks, martinis and everyday celebrations — in part due to qualities that set it apart even from its sister steakhouse concepts, says General Manager Jayton Fee.
“We put such an emphasis on staying local,” Fee told the Orlando Sentinel. “We’re using local purveyors and we’re really trying to incorporate the community around us as we open our doors to the neighborhood.”
Fee acknowledges Dexter’s significance in the space.
“It was a memorable place,” he says. “We aren’t trying to be the same, but we are bringing back that classic American steakhouse that opens early and stays open late because we’re really looking to give the community a place where they can spend a lot of time.”
And while there, he notes, they can expect Florida seafood, certified Angus beef steaks and decadent shareworthy sides — alongside craft cocktails and local beers.
Chef Nick Billings says that even just out of the gate, menu hits are presenting themselves.

“The scallop dish is already popular and the beef tartare and the carpaccio are flying out the window,” he says. “Also, the lobster pappardelle is a huge hit — one we hope to keep on the menu forever because everyone loves it.”
The team is excited, he says, to play into seasonality as they get comfortable in the space and the city. Menu shifts should happen roughly every three months according to plan. Fee says that although they’re a steakhouse, they’re “come as you are.”

“We want to be there for guests as a date night or special occasion spot … but we’re also here for a normal night out with your family.”
Billings echoes the sentiment: “One thing we’ve taken away from Steve Palmer [Indigo Road’s founder and chief visionary officer] is that everyone is welcome at our table.”
Brunch will feature Billings’ biscuits and gravy, oysters, caviar, champagne and more, and happy hour’s already up on the website, offering $10 martinis, Manhattans, old fashioneds and lemon drops — plus two wine offerings — with bar bites to pair with.
