Crash involving juvenile pedestrian shuts down both directions of Route 229 in Bristol

A juvenile was hit by a car on Route 229 in Bristol on Wednesday morning, leaving both sides of the road shut down.

Emergency crews just after 6:20 a.m. responded to the report that a boy had been hit by a vehicle in the 200 block of King Street, which is also known as Route 229, according to Lt. Patrick Krajewski of the Bristol Police Department.

Krajewski said officers located the victim before he was taken to an area hospital to have his injuries evaluated. His condition was not immediately clear.

According to the state Department of Transportation, Route 229 was closed between New Street and Bernside Drive.

Krajewski advised drivers to seek alternate routes. Northbound motorists were asked to use Broad Street to Andrews Street to West Washington Street. Southbound drivers were asked to use West Washington Street, to Andrews Street to Broad Street.

The DOT did not have an estimate as to how long the road would be shut down.
