CT-based chain had 11 restaurants at its peak. It’ll soon be down to 3

Plan b Restaurants announced Tuesday that it is closing three locations, including two in Connecticut, by the end of the month.

The restaurant group announced it will be closing the Hartford, West Hartford and Springfield locations by Aug. 31, saying it was “a strategic realignment of its footprint, choosing not to renew leases that have reached term.”

“This decision reflects a balance between fiscal responsibility and staying true to the experience our guests and teams deserve,” said Allie J. Gamble, founder and CEO.

“Looking ahead, the company remains focused on delivering its boutique dining experience, one that emphasizes craft, care, and community. These values have defined Plan b from the beginning and continue to guide its future,” Gamble added, noting that Plan b was “here to stay”

“This period in time will be used to step in closer and stay focused on what we do best, bringing people together over great food, bourbon, and beer. We’re making sure the next chapter of our story is even stronger.”

At its peak, Plan b Restaurants had 11 location in four states. The three remaining locations are in Milford, Glastonbury and Simsbury.

Plan b Restaurants previously announced the closing of its Southington restaurant in May.

“This transition reflects both the business realities of operating long-term locations while preserving the brand’s commitment to high-touch service, local connection and exceptional food and drink,” according to the release.

Gamble stated that this isn’t about restaurants closing but about honoring what Plan b has meant to its customers.

“Our goal now is to carry that same energy and connection into the restaurants we continue to own and operate, while holding deep gratitude for the communities that helped us grow,” Gamble said. “This decision does make us smaller, but it lays the foundation for a stronger, more deeply connected future. Our restaurants have been the backdrop for thousands of stories, from first dates to last-call bourbons. As we turn the page, we want to close this chapter with the same gratitude and energy that we opened it with.”

According to the company, all employees will receive severance pay. The company also stated that it is working “to place team members at other restaurants.”

All Plan b gift cards will be honored at the remaining three locations.

Plan b has earned numerous local and national recognitions over the years. Food & Wine readers ranked Plan b among the top burgers in the country, Zagat named it “Best Bang for Your Buck,” and Inc. Magazine named Plan b as one of the fastest-growing food and beverage companies and a leading job creator in Connecticut.
