U.S. National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement reporting the possibility of severe thunderstorms in part of Connecticut Saturday, with a “lower risk of tornadoes.”
A cold front will bring the potential for scattered severe thunderstorms Saturday in interior southern New England. The thunderstorms may begin to “pop-up across eastern New York, along the border with Connecticut and Massachusetts early as” noon to 2 p.n., the service reported.
The thunderstorms will have the potential to produce straight-line damaging winds, hail, localized flash flooding in urban areas or locations of poor drainage, frequent lightning, and a lower risk of tornadoes.
“Some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall.”
The National Weather Service out of Boston and Norton Mass.named Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties as potential targets of the storms, as well as wide swathes of Massachusetts. It specifically named the cities of Hartford, Windsor Locks, Union, Vernon, Putnam, and Willimantic,
There is prime time for storms to build develop,between 2 and 6 pm, across the interior of southern New England. Expect thunderstorms to weaken as the line shifts to the I-95 corridor between 7-10pm,” the service noted.

NOAA Weather Radio, and broadcast meteorologists, the service noted.

Accuweather also reports, for Greater Hartford Saturday, “Humid with some sun, then clouds; showers and a heavier thunderstorm this afternoon; storms can bring downpours, damaging winds and even an isolated tornado.”
