A man was arrested on Tuesday after a crash in Woodbridge lead to the alleged discovery of a loaded gun as well as cocaine, fentanyl and marijuana, police said.
The collision was reported on Baldwin Road around 8:45 p.m. and did not involve any injuries, according to the Woodbridge Police Department.
As officers were en route, they learned that a man was allegedly removing a license plate from his vehicle and was trying to leave the scene, police said. Officers then found 20-year-old Jaivon Williams of New Haven walking in the area, according to police.

Williams allegedly told police he was involved in an accident. Officers alleged that Williams left a backpack near the vehicle which was found with a Smith & Wesson M&P firearm inside, according to police. The gun was loaded with 21 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. Police also claimed that the bag contained drugs and paraphernalia.
Officers then searched the vehicle, which led to the alleged discovery of three bags containing a total of about 77.5 grams of cocaine and fentanyl. Four more bags containing a total of about 1,701 grams of marijuana and fentanyl were also allegedly found, as well as drug paraphernalia, police said.

Williams was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of an assault weapon, illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine, carrying a pistol without a permit, illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, possession of 1kg or more of cannabis with the intent to sell, possession of more than 1⁄2 oz. of cocaine with the intent to sell, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, interfering with an officer, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, misuse of plates and failure to obey a stop sign.
He was held on a $500,000 bond and was expected to appear in New Haven Superior Court on Wednesday.
