CT gang member involved in vehicle thefts, carjackings and attempted murder sentenced to prison

A Stamford man has received a 15-year federal prison sentence for his involvement in a violent Bridgeport street gang.

Amire Newsome, also known as “Mire,” 22, was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley in Bridgeport to 180 months in prison and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to racketeering conspiracy on Aug. 16, 2023, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals Service, Connecticut State Police and Bridgeport Police Department have conducted an extensive investigation into multiple Bridgeport-based gangs whose members are involved in drug trafficking, homicides and other acts of violence, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

According to federal officials, “approximately 47 members and associates of multiple Bridgeport-based gangs have been convicted of federal offenses stemming from this investigation, which has solved eight murders and approximately 20 attempted murders.”

Court records show that Newsome, a member of the Original North End, a gang based in the Trumbull Gardens area of Bridgeport, reportedly committed acts of violence against rival gangs, including the East End gang, the East Side gang, a West End gang and the PT Barnum gang.

According to investigators, O.N.E. members also “robbed drug dealers, customers and others, sold narcotics, and stole cars from inside and outside Connecticut, often using the cars to commit crimes,” and used social media to “promote and coordinate their criminal activities.”

After analyzing numerous social media posts and text messages, investigators concluded that Newsome was reportedly in possession of firearms, including firearms with extended magazines, and was selling a variety of drugs.

“He also participated with other O.N.E. members in the theft and possession of stolen vehicles, some of which were used to commit gang-related shootings, and conspired with them to murder O.N.E.’s rivals,” according to court records.

Court records show that on March 25, 2020, Newsome and O.N.E. member Tyiese Warren  stole a car in front of the Citgo 6M Service Station and Quik Mart at 2000 Barnum Ave. in Stratford. According to court records, they dragged the driver several hundred yards as he hung onto the car before he let it go.

Warren and Newsome then reportedly carjacked a Toyota Corolla in Bridgeport after holding the owner at gunpoint, court records show. Minutes later, the pair also reportedly committed an armed robbery of the Citgo in Stratford, taking cash from the store and a cellphone from an employee, and later stole three other cars that same night, according to court records.

Investigators also claimed that Newsome and fellow O.N.E. member Jahaz Langston conspired to kill rival gang members and, on March 7, 2021, shot and severely injured the mother of two rival gang members as she drove her vehicle on Interstate 95, court records show.

Newsome has been detained since his arrest on Aug. 10, 2021.

Court records show that Warren and Langston also pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy.  Warren was sentenced to 40 years in prison on March 9, 2022, and Langston was sentenced to 188 months in prison on April 17.
