A man was arrested Wednesday and accused of going about 120 mph while allegedly eluding a trooper who tried pulling him over on Interstate 395 in Griswold.
Shane Ebersole, 55, of Groton faces charges of reckless driving, disobeying the signal of an officer and interfering with an officer or resisting, according to Connecticut State Police.
State police said they believe he was driving a vehicle that was spotted by a trooper at 2:25 a.m. while patrolling the area of I-395 North near Exit 22. The trooper was in the right lane and saw a driver approaching from behind traveling “at a high rate of speed,” according to state police.

The vehicle, a Lexus RS 350 SUV, passed the cruiser before the trooper accelerated and tried catching up to it, state police alleged. The trooper found that the driver was allegedly going as fast as 105 mph, prompting the trooper to try initiating a traffic stop, according to state police.
State police said the driver allegedly refused to stop and sped up to about 120 mph before getting off the highway at Exit 24. The trooper abandoned the traffic stop shortly thereafter. State police released dashboard camera footage showing a portion of the incident where a driver can allegedly be seen refusing to stop and getting off the highway.
According to state police, the trooper at one point during the attempted stop was able to shine a light in the vehicle and get a look at the driver. Using the vehicle’s license plate number, state police found that the Lexus was registered to Ebersole, according to state police. The trooper used his Department of Motor Vehicles photo and was allegedly able to identify him as the driver, state police said.
State police contacted the Groton Police Department and asked them to detain Ebersole if he could be found. Just before 4 am., Groton police detained Ebersole outside of his home him until state police could respond and arrest him, according to state police.
He was held on a $20,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on Wednesday.
