CT man driving vehicle stolen from New Jersey dies in rollover crash on Route 8, state police say

A Bridgeport man was killed when the stolen vehicle police say he was driving left Route 8 in Shelton and struck multiple objects during a rollover crash on Monday.

The single-vehicle crash was reported on Route 8 North just before Exit 12A at 9:08 a.m., according to Connecticut State Police.

Oliver Armando Cruz-Ortiz, 20, was driving a 2018 Infiniti Q50 north when the vehicle left the right side of the highway and struck an overhead light pole and a metal sign, state police said. The vehicle then rolled over.

According to state police, Cruz-Ortiz was pronounced dead at the scene by responding medics.

The vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen to the Newark Police Department in New Jersey, state police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
