A Connecticut man has been extradited from New York to face sexual assault charges involving four juveniles.
Francisco Javier Gomez, 22, of Norwalk was arrested Tuesday and charged with three counts of risk of injury to a minor with illegal sexual contact, two counts each of second-degree sexual assault involving a victim between 13 and 15, first-degree possession of child pornography, employing a minor in an obscene performance and risk of injury to a minor and a single count of first-degree sexual assault with the use of force or threat and first-degree sexual assault of a victim under 13, according to the Norwalk Police Department.
Police said they began investigating in April 2024 when the police department’s Special Victims Unit was notified by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in New York that investigators there had arrested Gomez and accused him of sexually assaulting a 13-year old. New York investigators said they found evidence suggesting similar conduct may have occurred in Norwalk.
Norwalk Det. English assumed the investigation and worked with investigators from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the Stamford Superior Court State’s Attorney’s Office and federal partners from the U.S. State’s Attorney’s Office and the Department of Homeland Security, police said. The investigation included multiple search warrants and led investigators to obtaining a warrant accusing Gomez of sex crimes in Norwalk involving four juvenile victims, according to police.
Gomez pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the New York investigation and was serving a prison term when authorities from Connecticut reached an agreement to have him extradited to the state so he could serve out the rest of that sentence while the Connecticut charges are pending, police said. On Tuesday, Norwalk detectives traveled to Marcy, New York to transport Gomez to Connecticut.
Gomez was held on a $250,000 bond and was expected to face a judge on Wednesday in Stamford Superior Court.
