CT man killed in single-car crash in East Granby after vehicle leaves road, hits tree

A man was killed in a car crash in East Granby Sunday afternoon after his vehicle veered off the road, went down a slight embankment and hit a tree, state police said.

Troopers responded to a crash off Route 187 just before 3 p.m. Sunday and found a man unresponsive in the driver’s seat of an Infiniti Q70, according to the Connecticut State Police.

The East Granby Fire Department, as well as the Bradley Air National Guard Fire Department, responded to the scene and assisted in extracting the man from the vehicle, state police said.

The man, identified as 75-year-old Alan Rosenthal of Bloomfield, was transported to Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford by the Granby Ambulance Association, where he was pronounced dead, according to state police.

State police believe Rosenthal was traveling north on Route 187 just north of Spoonville Road when the vehicle veered into the grass shoulder on the east side of the road and traveled down a slight embankment where it hit a tree on the driver’s side.

The crash remains under investigation, according to state police. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Connecticut State Police Hartford Barracks at 860-534-1000.
