A man was arrested Tuesday after police allegedly found him with a loaded gun without a legible serial number as they were investigating the report that he had threatened someone with a firearm.
Police received a 911 call at 4:23 p.m. from someone reporting that a male with a handgun visible had threatened to shoot them in the area of 458 Westport Ave., according to Lt. Tomasz Podgorski of the Norwalk Police Department.
Officers responded to the area and began looking for the suspect, who was allegedly last seen walking through an adjacent parking lot. According to Podgorski, police found a man matching the suspect’s description and later identified him as 21-year-old Isaiah Mitchell of Norwalk.

As officers approached Mitchell, he was allegedly seen taking a handgun from his waistband and passing it into the passenger side of a vehicle, Podgorski said.
Police detained Mitchell and two people in the vehicle before the gun was reportedly found, according to Podgorski. Investigators also found that Mitchell had allegedly gone into a T-Mobile and caused a disturbance prior to the threatening incident.
The gun that was recovered by police was reportedly loaded with 11 .40 caliber rounds and had a defaced serial number, Podgorski said. Mitchell was arrested on charges of carrying a pistol without a permit, first-degree threatening, possession of a large-capacity magazine, alteration of a firearm serial number, carrying a firearm while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs and second-degree breach of peace.
Mitchell’s bond was set at $500,000. He is scheduled to face a judge on Oct. 6.
